The Baggu Brooklyn store is a complete redevelopment and expansion of the brand’s first retail location, originally opened in Williamsburg twelve years earlier. The new store doubles in size, unfolding across a large square floor plan with two entrances and a subtle shift in levels connected by a few steps. Concrete floors, walls, and ceilings are anchored together by a series of massive structural columns from the building’s industrial past, creating a raw yet refined canvas for the collection.

To further emphasize the capped columns as defining features, they are left unadorned especially at the center of the space where new steps and handrails wrap around them. A set of solid Douglas fir custom bench-shelves integrate with the steps as well, resolving the level change and adding warmth to the white and concrete interior. The tall benches also give the lower floor area an alcoved of living room feeling where people can rest or hangout in the store.

The design scope also includes an ongoing development of Baggu’s physical branding through custom made displays & fixtures, spatial language, and signage – much of which is delivered in a Design-Fabricate capacity by Haddock Studio working directly with a team of crafts people to deliver the arrangement of custom pieces to each store. The interior language favors natural sustainable materials in cork displays and wood block pedestals and solid furniture, along with metal wavy rails, custom perforated hanging walls, standing screens, peg-mount shelves & hooks, spinning kiosks, and cork cash wrap counters. All sitting under the black track-lighting rows, as a flexible gallery-like setting for Baggu’s ever expanding collections of bags and accessories for everyday living.
