On a prominent corner of Abbot Kinney Boulevard, in a historic brick and white tile storefront is the Venice Baggu store. The small footprint space works hard for a generosity of space, by making use of the tall ceilings with expanding displays up walls, and a new staircase to a lofted back-of-house which allows for a majority of the space to remain open unexpectedly airy.
New double doors at the rear push out to a backyard patio courtyard, surrounded by brick and weathered wood fencing, offering a loose and shaded oasis space that feels more like a Venice house backyard in its ease.
There's an appreciation for the beach-worn timber structures that also define Venice, as the original ceiling framing is exposed, the odd windowed storefront is intact, and the new BAGGU signage is just layered over the old building signs. The quirk that has defined the neighborhood is still happily present.
